Design Registration
The shape, configuration, pattern or ornament that gives your product its distinctive look can be registered as an industrial design, keeping copycats off the shelf.
Design registration protects the aesthetic appearance of a product, its shape, configuration, pattern or ornamentation, under the Designs Act, 2000. It does not protect how something works, that is a patent. It protects how it looks. A registered design gives you the exclusive right to apply that design to your product and to stop imitators.

A patent protects how an invention works, its function. A design protects how a product looks, its visual appeal. Many products benefit from both.
No. Novelty is essential. The design must not have been disclosed or published anywhere before filing, which is why we recommend filing before any public launch.
